Tablet computer systems aren’t new. They have existed for quite a while. However, with the discharge of Apple’s iPad, they have become more current as evidenced by ultra-slim tablets such as the Archos 9 PC Tablet. Thinner than 1″, the tablet is steadily built passing on a little more heft than a computer should. At 800gm, it’s certainly lighter than the typical netbook, but it’s still overweight to transport single-handed as you would an e-book reader. Rather, they fit just in the crook of the arm. It may be turned open at a position much like bigger touch-sensitive all-in-one computer systems. The screen is responsive enough, and as it is a resistive touchscreen, you can manage it well enough with mitts on.

Archos 9 PC Tablet

Component-wise, the Archos 9 PC Tablet does include a more power-efficient processor than the Apple Atom Z510 running at 1.1GHz. The screen is an 8.9″ Brought back-lit resistive touchscreen display having a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution. Since it is ultra lightweight, it may only comfortably fit in a 60GB 1.8-inch hard drive but has 1GB of DDR2 memory. The tablet has good built-in loudspeakers together with a built-in 1.3MP webcam along with a detachable battery. Unlike some netbook computers, the tablet includes Bluetooth 2. It also features 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi wireless connectivity.

Powered by Home Windows 7 Starter, the Archos 9 PC Tablet is very active for any tablet and provides many standard netbook computers a run for their price. Although it does not play full HD 1080p video, it can handle 720p HD video. For softer results, it’s recommended that you stay with 480p along with other less than 720p resolution videos though. Controls are very responsive, even though third-party keyboard application can use some work. It’s more accurate to utilize a stylus. Typing using the Archos 9 PC Tablet takes getting accustomed to, but when you get used to it, it’s a little hard to move to an ordinary keyboard. Battery life is perfect, with a standard battery life more than three hours on one charge. Turning off some features like Wi-Fi will stretch battery life to roughly five hrs.

Archos 9 hands-on

Overall, the Archos 9 PC Tablet is a great starter tablet for the early adopters. Although it continues to have some rough edges because of software integration, this can change as the tablet’s software programs are updated. More compact and lighter than the typical netbook but bigger than your wise-phone, it will provide a better option to most MIDs because of better multimedia abilities and more energy-efficient components.
